Washington, DC – September 11, 2012 –  The Electricity Storage Association (ESA) and the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together to advance the energy storage industry in both the United States and India.

“The ESA is excited about the creation of IESA and looks forward to the coordination and leveraging of our collective expertise to grow opportunities for storage related investment in India and the U.S.,” said Brad Roberts, ESA Executive Director. “ESA focuses on education and advocacy including the opportunity to bring legislative and regulatory best practices to an emerging growth market like India.”

Rahul Walawalkar, Executive Director, IESA, agrees that collaboration between these two groups will benefit a wide range of stakeholders. “India presents tremendous opportunities for integration of emerging energy storage technologies to help resolve the infrastructure challenges faced by one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Through this agreement and others, the IESA will promote the benefits of storage technologies through stakeholder initiatives targeted at various regulators, technology providers and potential large users. We also look forward to applying lessons learned from storage installations in the U.S, to make the Indian industrial and power sector more competitive, efficient and reliable.”

IESA has also launched a Knowledge Partner Network (IESA-KPN) to help bring together potential large users, regulatory agencies and research institutions to accelerate adoption of energy storage technologies and applications in India. In an effort to introduce global energy storage industry stakeholders to the Indian market, the IESA will be conducting a Technical Tour through New Delhi, Mumbai and Pune from October 28 to November 3, 2012. This week long tour will include a series of meetings with policy makers, large commercial and industrial users and potential project partners through round table discussions organized by IESA-KPN and other industry organizations.

IESA has also partnered with 2 leading conference organizers for organizing dedicated energy storage panel discussions at co-located conference events including Inter Solar India (http://www.intersolar.in) and 6th Renewable Energy India 2012 Expo (http://www.renewableenergyindiaexpo.com/) in the subsequent week.
